Social Issues and SCRD Mandate

Many people believe that the SCRD is responsible for supporting or promoting a variety of social issues. This is not in fact accurate, as most common social concerns are the responsibility of the provincial and federal governments. There are, however, exceptions when the particular social issue is of potential benefit to the entire Sunshine Coast. For example, SCRD and the municipalities are prepared to fund an affordable housing society and help get grants and support from the other levels of government, both Federal and Provincial.
